Plastic Shark

FAILED ENTRY

Sometimes you throw yourself into a system you cannot see, only to discover that it cannot absorb you.

Plastic Shark is a short experiment combining photography, 3D modeling, texturing, compositing, and motion.

The process started with a photographed pond environment. A plastic great white shark was then developed as a 3D asset using image-based model generation, followed by cleanup and material work in Blender.

Multiple reference views were created to improve the shark’s geometry and surface treatment, including front, side, top, and underside views. The model was then adjusted to preserve the exaggerated plastic character while improving the great white’s proportions, countershading, mouth, fins, and overall silhouette.

The finished shark was composited into the photographed landscape and matched to the scene through scale, orientation, lighting, contrast, and color. Motion was added as a simple continuous rotation, allowing the object to be viewed from changing angles while remaining fixed within the environment.

The project was used to explore a lightweight workflow for moving from photography to generated 3D geometry, Blender refinement, compositing, and browser-based motion.
