FINDING PURCHASE
Hook Lab is an interactive experiment exploring the relationship between trajectory, contact, and hold. Built for the world of Atlas, it turns a grappling hook into a small system you can test, observe, and adjust.
Choose a hook geometry, change the target surface, and set the launch angle, energy, and mass. A first-person 3D view shows the action while a side profile traces the flight. Live instruments track speed, elapsed time, remaining line, and contact resistance.
The experiment follows what happens after the shot as closely as the flight itself. During retrieval, the hook and rope encounter the environment: scraping along the ground, pulling against surfaces, and catching or slipping as the direction of tension changes.
The interface brings these relationships into view through a restrained palette, a spatial grid, and responsive instrumentation. Each adjustment becomes a question you can answer by firing again.
Developed with Codex and Three.js, Hook Lab uses simplified game physics to explore how a fictional tool might behave. It is part of an ongoing practice of building objects and interactions from Atlas as working browser experiments.
